Sony TV IR commands stopped working...

Folks,

SInce the list is a little slow lately, I hope Michael won't mind a  
slightly off topic question?

I woke this morning and found the remote on the coffee table... Which  
is not where the wife leaves it normally.  (She's quite the creature  
of habit)  I picked it up to turn on the TV and nothing happened.   
After some experimentation, I've found that the remote and TV are  
fine, responding to direct button presses on the front of the TV but  
any I.R. commands aren't received by the TV.

This is a new one on me as I've never even heard of this happening  
before.  Anyone had this happen and is there a cure?  I've tried  
unplugging the TV and using the Apple method of holding the Power  
button in while unplugged for about 30 seconds.  No joy.

Any ideas?
