i've spent quite a bit of time setting this stuff up with a friend of  
mine. There are some excellent php based calendar apps that can use  
the uploaded iCal file and edit and display it. What he has done is  
moved his iCal files to the server, enabled webdav, subscribed the  
Mac machines to them for display of them and alarms and such in iCal,  
and then edits or updates them from the web interface.

Sorry, he's not online right at the moment for me to quiz about the  
specifics and what program he's using now, I can't remember. If it's  
not obvious when you're looking around at things, drop me a note off  
the list and I'll try to find out more details for you.
