Airport Express vs Slim Devices' Squeezebox 2 for whole house audio

Hi,
I am beginning to wrap up this installation of my
whole-house audio system with my iMac/iTunes setup as
the most used audio source. I have a few Audreys that
I am going to bring online as well. Right now, the
iMac in the office is connected to the whole-house
audio amp in the master closet with a Griffin iMic and
a decent quality 50 ft coax cable. I have found the
audio from this setup to be rather flat & dull (plays
at a lower volume than other inputs as well) when
compared to a CD burnt from the same playlist and
played on my DVD player which is adjacent to my amp.
Moving the computer or amp would be a whole bunch of
work, so I'd rather go an easier route.... some
options I have found thus far;
1. Apple Airport express, the cheaper soluton, it is
not clear to me if it will actually stream over and
ethernet cable (I'd rather not go wireless since I
have already put Cat-5 everywhere in the house)
2. Slim Devices Squeezebox2.... looks good but pretty
expensive.
Has anyone had any experience with these two
solutions? Relative Merits? Any other suggestions
would be greatly appreciated as well.
Thanks in advance,
Dave
