Also used in the German working/guard dog training known as
Schutzhund (literally "protection dog").
The command "plotz" is the German equivalent of "down." One of my
friends has two German shepherds, one of which she is training for
Schutzhund competition. One of the dogs gets commands in English,
the other in German. It's amusing that both dogs are now bilingual
-- they respond about equally well to commends in either language.
Heel -> foos
Down -> plotz
Out -> Aus (also 'speak' or bark)
... and many more.
